SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--South Korea’s Samsung Petrochemical Co (SPC) would shut its 700,000 tonne/year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant at Daesan by the end of October for 10 days instead of the scheduled 20 days, said a company source on Friday.
"Now all our plants are running well, and we would have the 10-day turnaround for the Daesan plant at the end of October," said the source, confirming the change in duration of the Daesan shutdown.
The company had said that the line would be shutdown for 20 days starting 20 October.
The company had also trimmed operating rates at its other three PTA lines located at Ulsan, mainly due to poor economics.
With a total nameplate capacity of 1.8m tonne/year, SPC is the largest PTA producer in South Korea.
