SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--Dow Chemical subsidiary Dow Epoxy has awarded a 10-year feedstock contract worth $400m to Shanghai Tian Yuan Huasheng Chemical Co, which will supply its new liquid epoxy resin (LER) plant and glycerine-to-epichlorohydrin (GTE) facility, the company said on Wednesday.

The 100,000 tonne/year LER plant and the 150,000 tonne/year GTE unit were expected to break ground in the first quarter of 2009, Noelle Walsh, global business director of liquid resin and intermediates at Dow Epoxy, told ICIS news.
The two plants had received environmental approval from the government last month, said Patrick Ho, business group president of epoxy and specialty chemicals at Dow.
About 40% of GTE produced at the new plant would be for captive use, while the rest would be targeted to the Asia-Pacific export market, Walsh said.
The LER plant would also principally supply the domestic market, Ho added.

Dow Epoxy is one of the world’s largest epoxy resins and intermediates manufacturers, with strong positions in a number of major application areas, including coatings, electrical laminates and civil engineering.
