PRAGUE (ICIS news)--The largest trade union at Polish melamine, caprolactam and nitrogen fertilizer producer Zaklady Azotowe Pulawy (ZAP) is preparing for a strike, it said on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Trade Union of the Workers’ Movement (ZZPRC) said it would soon announce a strike ballot of workers because three months of talks with ZAP's management had failed to produce a satisfactory pay deal.

The statement added that the law required a minimum of one-third of ZAP workers to vote in favour of a strike for the labour action to be legal.

ZAP, Poland’s largest maker of fertilizers, has this year benefited from world food price booms that have led farmers to order more of its fertiliser products.

Pulawy is based in eastern Poland.
