LONDON (ICIS news)--US phosphate fertilizer producer Agrifos has restarted production at its Texas facility following its closure due to flooding caused by Hurricane Ike, sources at the company said on Wednesday.

The 625,000 tonne/year Pasadena facility, which was shut down on 12 September as Hurricane Ike hit the US Gulf of Mexico, had partially restarted production last weekend and had begun shipping rail cars, the company said.

The firm anticipated that full output would be restored in the next two weeks, it said.

Total phosphate fertilizer losses were estimated at 75,000 tonnes (25,000 tonnes in storage plus 50,000 tonnes of lost production), it added.

During the hurricane, the roof of the storage warehouse was ripped off, exposing inventories to rain, which ruined all stocks in the building, the company said

Some of the lost inventories had been removed from the site, freeing up storage capacity for new production, sources added.

The plant, located on the Houston Ship Channel, makes diammonium phosphate (DAP) and monammonium phosphate (MAP) among other products for the domestic and international markets.
