HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Pigment maker Cristal Global on Friday followed other major titanium dioxide (TiO2) producers with proposed price increases for Europe and Russia, effective 1 November.

Cristal, the world's second-largest TiO2 producer, announced hikes of €150/tonne ($203/tonne) for its TiO2 sold in Eastern and Western Europe, including Turkey, and a hike of $150/tonne (€111/tonne) for all TiO2 sold in Russia, as contracts allow.

Like the other producers, Cristal cited the need to restore margins ailing from elevated raw material and transportation costs as the rationale for its latest price initiatives.

Huntsman's latest price initiative for Europe was a proposed €75/tonne increase in Europe on 5 September for 1 October. Three other major producers announced hikes for the region this week

In North America, TiO2 contract prices are in the range of 109-119 cents/lb FD (free delivered), according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.

US producers of TiO2 include Cristal, DuPont, Kronos, Tronox and Huntsman.
