SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Japanese acrylonitrile (ACN) producer Asahi Kasei will restart its 150,000 tonne/year plant in Kawasaki, Japan in mid-November after a 40-day planned maintenance shutdown, a company source said on Tuesday.

The Kawasaki line was shut on 1 October.

Several ACN plants in Asia have shut or cut operating rates, including China Petrochemical Development Corp (CPDC) of Taiwan, Anqing Petrochemical of China and Taekwang Petrochemical and Tongsuh Petrochemical of Korea, due to slowing demand.

The downstream acrylic fibre (AF) and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) markets have seen sales weakening amid the global downturn and the AF and ABS producers have been operating at reduced rates.
