SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--Russia-based caprolactam producer Shchekino plans to shut down its 50,000 tonne/year caprolactam unit in November due to poor demand, a source close to the company said on Friday.

"The unit will shut down next month, but the restart date is not fixed. And the company will buy feedstock from another company Kyuibishev to keep its downstream operation," the source said in Mandarin.

Meanwhile, another Russia caprolactam producer Kemerovo would also shut down one of its two lines next month, traders said.

Kemerovo operates two lines, one with 60,000 tonnes/year and the other with 65,000 tonnes/year capacity.

"It is very difficult to sell caprolactam products from Russia to China now due to the falling prices and weak downstream demand," sources said.
