SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--State-owned PetroChina has shut its 200,000 tonne/year base oils refinery in Jinxi, northeast China, for a scheduled maintenance, a company official said on Tuesday.

The restart date was not available.

Other sources, however, said it would be increasingly difficult to start operations once the weather turned cold in November.

"One possibility would be to delay the start up until March next year, which is not impossible given the poor market conditions now," the source added.

State-owned Sinopec and PetroChina are the main base oils producers in China.
