SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Japan’s Mitsui Chemicals is running its 617,000 tonne/year cracker in Ichihara, Chiba prefecture, at 80-85% after restarting the facility on schedule, a company source said on Wednesday.

“We restarted the cracker yesterday,” he said, adding that the company planned to run the plant at current operating rates until the end of the year.

Mitsui had taken the cracker offline on 20 October for maintenance following earlier distillation issues at the cracker.

Separately, the company also planned to reduce production at its 450,000 tonne/year cracker in Osaka to 85-90% from November due to weak market conditions. It is currently running at 100%, the source added.
