TOKYO (ICIS news)--Japan’s Kashima Aromatics will shut down its benzene and paraxylene (PX) unit for almost two months in September 2009 for maintenance, similar to the shutdown this September, said a company source on Wednesday.

The Kashima-based aromatics unit, which was a joint venture of Japan Energy and Mitsubishi Chemical, would be taken offline for 45 days for scheduled turnaround, he added.

The plant was running at full capacity at present after being restarted last week, he added.

The company produces about 190,000 tonnes/year of benzene and 420,000 tonne/year of PX from its 60,000 bbl/day condensate splitter at the facility.

Nippon Oil and Idemitsu Kosan are some of the other key aromatics producers in Japan.
