LONDON (ICIS news)--Evonik Industries will invest €45m ($57m) to build a new facility for the production of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) at the Triunfo petrochemicals complex near Porto Alegre, Brazil, the company said on Wednesday.

The German firm said construction of the 40,000 tonne/year plant was scheduled to begin in mid-2009 and would become operational in early 2011.

“The new facility in Porto Alegre will allow us to participate in Brazil’s dynamic market growth and to expand our excellent world-leading position,” said Werner Muller, chairman of Evonik’s executive board.

“According to experts, the Brazilian cellulose market is expected nearly to double in the time until 2013, increasing from some 6m to 13m tonnes per year,” he added.

The new plant would create some 25 full-time jobs, the company said.

The plans are subject to the approval by Evonik’s supervisory board, it added.

Its current global hydrogen peroxide capacity is over 600,000 tonnes/year.
