HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Equistar has begun the shutdown process of its La Porte olefins cracker in Texas to perform maintenance at the site, the company said on Thursday.

The process will last several days as the entire unit will be de-inventoried, the company said in a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

Equistar did not say when the 789,000-tonne/year cracker would be restarted.

The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
