SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Japan’s Mitsubishi Chemical has shut down one of its purified terephthalic acid (PTA) lines in Indonesia this week for a month-long maintenance and would keep operations low when the plant is restarted, company sources said on Friday.
The company has two PTA units with 330,000 tonnes/year capacity each on Java island.
“One of the two lines was shut on Tuesday, and this shutdown is for one month,” said one of the sources.
“After the one-month shutdown, the overall operating rates at the plant would be low, maybe around 80% [of nameplate capacity],” said another source.
The shutdown was originally planned to begin in November but after considering logistical, inventory and feedstock factors, the company decided to start this week, sources said.
The second line would be operating normally during the other’s shutdown, they said.
