SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--South Korean paraxylene (PX) producer KP Chemical will shut down production at its No 2 Ulsan-based unit from tomorrow, cutting its demand for feedstock isomer grade xylenes, a company source said on Friday.

Its demand for the feedstock would fall by about 30,000-40,000 tonnes as the 500,000 tonnes/year PX plant would be offline for two weeks, he said.

“We’ve requested for some volume cut,” he said, referring to their contractual purchases of feedstock isomer-grade xylenes.

Taiwan’s Formosa Chemical and Fibre Corp (FCFC) and Chinese Petroleum Corp (CPC) are some other key buyers of isomer grade xylenes in Asia.
