ROME (ICIS news)--Martin Midstream is in the process of building a second sulphur prilling unit in Beaumont, Texas, a company source said on Tuesday.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Sulphur 2008 conference, the source said the second prilling unit was scheduled to come on stream at the end of the first quarter of 2009.

The second unit would take prilling capacity at Beaumont to 1.5m tonnes/year, he added.

Prilling units form liquid sulphur into solid prills, making the product ready for the solid oriented export market.

The source added that the existing prilling unit at Beaumont was currently running at full rates.

The Sulphur 2008 conference runs from 2-5 November in Rome, Italy.
