LANXESS signs Cheng Shin rubber supply contract

LONDON (ICIS news)--LANXESS has signed a long-term agreement with Taiwan tyre manufacturer Cheng Shin Rubber to supply solution styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) and polybutadiene rubber, the German speciality chemicals company said on Wednesday.

 

LANXESS agreed to supply Cheng Shin over the next four years, while over the same period the company plans to double its capacity to produce high-performance rubber.

 

The Asia-Pacific region accounted for 42% of the company’s sales of butyl rubber in 2007, jumping from almost a third in 2004.

 

The company has invested about €400m ($518m) on a new butyl rubber plant on Jurong Island, Singapore, with groundbreaking scheduled for early 2009.
