SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Taiwan’s Nan Ya Plastics, will delay the startup of its 130,000 tonne/year No 4 bisphenol A (BPA) line due to weak demand, a company source said on Friday.
The line, located at its petrochemical facility at Mailiao in southern Taiwan, was shut on 17 October for an annual turnaround originally scheduled for 15 days.
The source said that due to weak demand, prices were expected to fall for feedstock phenol and acetone and hence buyers were delaying purchases of the feedstocks.
Nan Ya Plastics has a total of four BPA lines with a combined nameplate capacity of 420,000 tonnes/year.
Other BPA majors in the region include Mitsui Chemicals, LG Chem, Kumho P&B and Chang Chun Plastics.
