SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Iran’s Bandar Imam Petrochemical Co (BIPC) is now expected to restart its 400,000 tonne/year cracker in January 2009 as the shutdown period has been lengthened to carry out technical modifications to the facility, a source close to the company said on Tuesday.
“The programme will last three months,” the source said, adding that the nameplate capacity was projected to be increased by 100,000-150,000 tonnes/year.
The cracker at Bandar Imam was taken offline in late October and was initially expected to be shut for 50-60 days.
Ethylene feedstock for BIPC’s derivative units is currently supplied by Marun Petrochemical, which runs a 1.1 m tonne/year cracker at the same site.
The derivative plants include a 100,000 tonne/year low density polyethylene (LDPE) unit and a 60,000 tonne/year high density polyethylene (HDPE) unit.
