MOSCOW (ICIS news)--Russia's Kuibyshevazot has cut its caprolactam production by 50% due to falling demand amid the ongoing economic downturn, the company said in a statement released on Wednesday.

The company had also virtually stopped caprolactam sales while remaining volumes were used in-house for polyamide-6 production, according to the statement.

In January-June, Kuibyshevazot produced 93,700 tonnes of caprolactam, a rise of 15.3% year on year, and 46,400 tonnes of polyamide-6, up 37% in the year-earlier period.

Based in the Samara region of central Russia, Kuibyshevazot plans to finish construction of the fourth, 50,000 tonne/year stage of the polyamide-6 unit by 2009, taking the plant's total polyamide-6 capacity to 150,000 tonnes/year.
