HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US exports of ethyl acetate (etac) in September were 5,776 tonnes, up about 80% from the same month a year ago, according to data the US International Trade Commission (ITC) released on Thursday.
But September etac exports fell 34% from 8,769 tonnes in August, the ITC said. Mexico, Spain and Turkey were the top three export destinations, accounting for 3,978 tonnes, or about 69% of total shipments.
US etac exports rates jumped by double-digits in the first nine months of 2008, totalling 51,340 tonnes, up 31% from 39,212 tonnes in the same period of 2007.
US Gulf coast export prices have ranged from 64-69 cents/lb ($1,411-1,521/tonne, €1,129-1,217/tonne) during the past month, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.
Major US etac producers include Celanese, Eastman Chemical and Solutia, whose material is marketed by BP.
