HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US benzene imports in September were 178.7m litres, down 38% from 286m litres in August, according to trade data released on Thursday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).
Benzene imports in September were 41% lower than the 303.6m litres in the same month of 2007.
Year-to-date benzene imports through September were 2.9bn litres, 9% below levels from the year-earlier period.
Imports fell from all origins except Angola, Iraq and Saudi Arabia, the ITC said.
US benzene exports January through September rose by 68% to 38.9m litres on the back of exports to Germany and South Korea, which took no US material in the year-earlier period.
