HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Colombian state petroleum company Ecopetrol has awarded a contract for its upgrade project at the Barrancabermeja refinery, a contractor said on Friday.
The contractor, Foster Wheeler, said its contracts cover front-end engineering design and project management consultancy. The value of the contract was not disclosed.
When completed, the project will increase the refining capacity at Barrancabermeja to 300,000 bbl/day from 250,000/day, Foster Wheeler said.
After the upgrades, Barrancabermeja will be able to process heavy crude, Foster Wheeler said. Also, the complex will meet Colombia's clean-fuels-product specifications, which go into effect in 2013.
