Bayer lifts US MDI force majeure at Texas plant

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Bayer MaterialScience has lifted its force majeure (FM) declaration on methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) and isophorone di-isocyanate in drums from its Baytown plant in Texas, a company spokesperson said on Friday.

The company had already lifted FM at the beginning of October for Makrolon polycarbonate and polycarbonate blends, toluene di-isocyanate (TDI) and some inorganic basic chemicals.

FM was also lifted on 1 November for polyether polyol products manufactured in North America, and some isocyanate products, but remains in effect for liquid polyester coatings raw materials, Bayer said.

Bayer declared FM for these products in September, after hurricanes Ike and Gustav hit the US Gulf coast, affecting facilities in Texas and Louisiana.

Major US isocyanates and polyol producers include Dow Chemical, LyondellBasell, BASF, Bayer, Huntsman, Invista, Stepan, Oxid, Arch and Shell.
