LONDON (ICIS news)--Kemira has acquired Brazilian water treatment chemicals company Nheel Quimica for an undisclosed sum, the Finnish specialties producer said on Monday.

With an annual turnover of about €26m ($33m), Nheel Quimica supplies coagulants for municipal water treatment and sewage water plants.

Kemira said that coagulant consumption was rapidly expanding in Brazil’s major cities due to tightening environmental legislation.

“[The acquisition] will significantly increase the revenue of our business in the fast growing water treatment market in Brazil and give us a solid production structure as we get a well integrated production plant in Rio Claro in the state of Sao Paulo,” said Pekka Ojanpaa, the president of Kemira’s water business.

Last year, Kemira acquired the coagulants businesses of southern Brazil-based Dalquim Industria e Comercio.
