SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--Sinopec subsidiary Dongxing Refining shut its aromatics unit in Zhanjiang in China’s southern province of Guangdong early this week for maintenance, a company source said on Tuesday.

The shutdown may last around half a month until the end of November, but the restart date has not been confirmed, he added.

“The producer wants to produce isomer grade xylene product, so it may do some mechanical works at the unit to achieve the relevant standards during this maintenance,” said a source close to the company.

The Zhanjiang unit produces 180,000 tonnes/year of xylene and an unspecific volume of toluene, which was for captive use in oil blending.

Ellen Huang from CBI contributed to this article.
