SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Shanghai Wujing Chemical Co raised its acetic acid operating rate marginally by nine percentage points to 54% of its combined 550,000 tonne/year capacity, following a stabilising of Chinese domestic acetic acid values, a company official said on Wednesday.

The company resumed operations at its 300,000 tonne/year No 2 acetic acid line in Wujing, Shanghai, on 12 November following a two-week shutdown.

At the same time, it shut its 250,000 tonne/year No 1 line, bringing the operating rate to 54%, the company official said in Mandarin.

“We do not have any firm plans on the duration of the shutdown of the No 1 line,” he added.

Major acetic acid producers in Asia include Celanese, BP, CPDC, Jiangsu Sopo, Daicel Chemical Industries, Showa Denko and GNFC.
