LONDON (ICIS news)--The world’s largest chemicals producer BASF on Wednesday announced it would shut down 80 plants worldwide due to a “massive decline” in demand for its products.

The German company was also reducing production at about 100 plants to avoid overcapacity, while bringing forward scheduled maintenance work.

The shutdowns and cutbacks mainly affect businesses selling into the automotive, construction and textile industries, the company said.
