SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--South Korea’s LG MMA will extend the shutdown of its 76,000 tonne/year MMA facility in Yeosu until end November amid weak demand, said a company source on Friday.
The plant was shut on 10 November for repairs and maintenance and was expected to restart on 20 November. However, the restart date is likely to delay to the end of November, he added.
The line is one among the three that LG MMA operates at the same site. The other two lines, each with a capacity of 50,000 tonnes/year, were operating normally.
Other MMA producers also echoed the sentiment that soft downstream demand from all sectors like polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), transparent ABS and cast sheets were pulling down MMA prices. Some producers had also chosen to shut down their plants rather than operate at low rates.
Major Asian MMA producers include Mitsubishi Rayon Co, Sumitomo Chemical, LG MMA, Lucite and Formosa Plastics.
