LONDON (ICIS news)--French specialty chemicals producer Arkema will close down 12 of its petrochemical sites worldwide in December due to a downturn in downstream markets, company sources said on Friday.

“We will shut down 12 of our sites, nine in France, because of the downturn in the automotive and construction sectors,” a company source said.

The company did not specify all of the petrochemicals that would be affected by the December closures, although the sources confirmed that polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) production would stop in December.

“We are shutting (PMMA production) for one month because of the downturn in automotive and construction,” another company source said.

“We want to reduce stocks in order to control them better,” the source added.
