Austrotherm starts up XPS unit in Romania

BUCHAREST (ICIS news)--Austrotherm Romania has started production at an extruded polystyrene (XPS) unit at Horia in eastern Romania, the company said on Friday.

"The unit has a capacity of 150,000 cubic metres/year and it follows to an investment worth some €8m [$10m]," Petru Lada, manager of Austrotherm Romania, told ICIS news.

Austrotherm Romania part of Austria's leading rigid PS foam maker Austrotherm. The company owns two other expandable polystyrene (EPS) units in capital Bucharest and Horia, respectively.

XPS is seen as an invaluable product in heating and insulation as it is much harder and more durable than EPS.
