TORONTO (ICIS news)--Rohm and Haas has launched the first phase of its new 70,000 tonne/year polymer emulsions plant near Moscow, it said on Friday.

The plant would be focused on additives for paint and coatings materials and adhesives, it said.

The facility marked Rohm and Haas’s largest investment in Russia to date, it said, but did not disclose how much the plant cost.

“This investment heralds a new commitment into what we consider to be one of our core growth markets,” said Cheryl Martin, Rohm and Haas vice president and general manager for paint and coatings materials in the European, Middle East and Africa markets.

“We are sure that in spite of the world economic crisis it is important we continue to make investments in markets with high potential such as Russia,” she added.
