SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Taiwanese phenol producer Chang Chun Plastics has reduced demand for its feedstock benzene due to a shutdown at its 300,000 tonne/year phenol unit, a company source said on Wednesday.

Chang Chun shut the plant in Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan, in October for a capacity expansion. The plant was expected to restart after two months.

The current poor market conditions have reduced the company’s demand for benzene and the plant will remain shut with no restart date yet known, the source said.

The source declined to disclose how much of Chang Chun’s benzene demand would be affected.

The estimated total benzene demand for the unit is about 150,000 tonnes/year, he said.
