France’s Arkema to centralise procurement ops

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--French specialty chemicals producer Arkema plans to centralise its goods and services procurement operations beginning in April to save €35m/year ($46m/year), the company said on Wednesday.

Arkema said its individual industrial sites are currently responsible for the purchasing of goods and services in France, with the exception of three facilities.

Procurement operations at those three facilities - Saint-Fons, Pierre-Bénite and Balan - were pooled in January at a Rhone centre. The consolidation served as a model for the new centralisation plan, Arkema said.

“In particular it aims to optimise relations with suppliers and take full advantage of the volume effect,” Arkema said in a statement. “This new organisation will result in annual savings of €35m in the purchasing of goods and services in France, which will be gradually achieved over the next three years.”

The project will result in the net loss of 17 positions in various Arkema France facilities, it said.

Arkema will implement the project between April 2009 and November 2010, it said.
