SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--South Korea’s synthetic rubber producer LG Chem shut down its 100,000 tonne/year butadiene rubber (BR) plant in Daesan on 25 November for maintenance , a company source said on Thursday.

The plant will be offline until 7 December as scheduled, the source added.

The two-week planned turnaround will not have any significant impact on BR pricing due to prevailing weak market conditions, traders said.

BR spot prices have plunged 50% in the past month to around $1,500/tonne CFR (cost and freight) northeast (NE) Asia as demand has deteriorated amid the slump in the global automobile market.

BR is a raw material used in the manufacture of tyres.
