HONG KONG (ICIS news)--Pakistan's sole polyvinyl chloride (PVC) producer, Engro Polymer and Chemicals, has achieved on-spec production at its new 50,000 tonne/year plant, a company official said on Thursday.

"The plant started up at the end of October but on-spec output was obtained only this week," said Syed Ashar Hussain, the company's marketing manager, on the sidelines of the ICIS Asian Caustic Soda Conference

Engro's total PVC capacity has increased to 150,000 tonnes/year with the start-up of the new plant.

The new PVC plant is located at Port Qasim, near the coastal city of Karachi, adjoining its old 100,000 tonne/year plant.

Vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) feedstock for both the plants was being sourced from the Middle East, Hussain added.

The company is a joint venture of Engro Chemicals, the International Finance Corp and Mitsubishi Corp.

The two-day conference ends on Friday.
