DUBAI (ICIS news)--Saudi Basic Industries Corp (SABIC) is running all its plants in the Middle East at 100% capacity despite the global slowdown in demand, said vice-chairman and CEO Mohamed al-Mady on Wednesday.

“It makes common sense for any company or business to optimise operations,” he said on the sidelines of the 3rd Gulf Petrochemical and Chemicals Association (GPCA) forum.

SABIC Europe had recently slashed operating rates at its European polyethylene (PE) units by 30-40% due to declining prices amid the global economic slowdown.

It had also retarted its cracker at Wilton, UK at reduced rates after a technical glitch earlier in November.

The three-day GPCA forum ends on 4 December.
