The European Parliament and the French presidency on Tuesday agreed an overall 20% renewables target by 2020 and a 10% renewables target for the transport sector.
The bulk of the target for the transport sector would be met through biofuels, said Johannes Lackmann, general manager of biofuels industry group Verband der Deutschen Biokraftstoffindustrie (VDB).
Germany now needed to make sure that its national laws did not undermine EU targets and policies, Lackmann said and went on to urge the government to abandon its plan to reduce biofuels blending quotas from 6.25% to 5.25% next year.
VDB had warned earlier that the quota reduction would force producers to idle plants and cut capacities.
