US October butac exports rise 3% year over year

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US exports of butyl acetate (butac) rose 3% in October from the same month a year ago to 5,106 tonnes, according to data the US International Trade Commission (ITC) released on Thursday.

October butac exports rose almost 5% from 4,865 tonnes in September, the ITC said. Mexico, Brazil and Korea were the top three export destinations, accounting for 3,654 tonnes, or nearly 72% of total shipments.

US butac exports rose 10% in the first 10 months this year, totalling 55,814 tonnes, compared with 50,735 tonnes in the same period of 2007.

US Gulf coast export prices for butac ranged from 76-85 cents/lb ($1,675-1,874/tonne or €1,290-1,443/tonne) over the past month, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.

Major US butac producers include Dow Chemical, Eastman and Oxea Group.
