HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US exports of vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) in October totalled 29,689 tonnes, down 7% from 32,005 tonnes during the same month last year, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) said on Thursday.

October exports also were up by almost 7% from 27,807 tonnes in September this year, the ITC said.

Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Saudi Arabia were the top four export destinations in October, accounting for a collective 14,135 tonnes - or about 48% of total shipments.

US VAM exports increased by 31% through October this year compared with the same period of 2007, reflecting a soft domestic market and sluggish US economy, market sources said.

US Gulf export FOB (free on board) prices were $1,150-1,250/tonne (€886-963/tonne) over the past month, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.

US VAM producers include Celanese, Dow Chemical, DuPont and LyondellBasell.
