Canada commits to help Detroit Big Three

TORONTO (ICIS news)--Canada’s federal government and the province of Ontario said on Friday they will match 20% of any aid the US may provide to help the troubled Detroit Big Three automakers.

The money would go to the Canadian operations of the Big Three, federal industry ministry Tony Clement said in a televised briefing

Clement said the three carmakers had about 20% of their North American operations in Canada.

It was not immediately clear what Canada would do if the US does not provide aid to the carmakers.
