Sumitomo Chemical operates capro plant on 50%

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Japanese producer Sumitomo Chemical increased the operating rates at its Niihima caprolactam plant to 50% from 30-35% after assessing market conditions about two weeks since the plant’s restart, a company source said on Monday.

“We will keep a close eye on the market demand-supply fundamentals to ensure greater responsiveness in a volatile market,” the source said.

Sumitomo Chemical restarted its 180,000 tonne/year caprolactam plant at 30-35% of total capacity after a month-long turnaround on 28 November.

The major regional producer runs two caprolactam lines – a 95,000 tonne/year No 1 unit and a 85,000 tonne/year No 2 line – at the Niihama plant in western Japan.
