Correction: In the ICIS news story headlined "LyondellBasell, Bayer Netherlands PO/SM plant idled" dated 18 December 2008, please read in the second paragraph ...305,000tonnes/year for PO and 680,000 tonnes/year for SM... instead of ...285,000 tonnes/year for PO and 640,000 tonnes/year for SM.... A corrected story follows.

LONDON (ICIS news)--LyondellBasell’s and Bayer’s joint venture (JV) propylene oxide (PO)/styrene monomer (SM) operations at Maasvlakte, the Netherlands, have been idled for an indefinite period on poor demand, a company source said on Thursday.

The plant, which has a rated nameplate capacity of 305,000 tonnes/year for PO and 680,000 tonnes/year for SM, went down on 14 December, according to regional PR manager, Edwin Kotylak.

“Since the sharp drop in demand, it has been the right decision to idle the plant,” he said.

Staff at the site have been unaffected by the shutdown, he added.
