HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Black smoke spewing from LyondellBasell’s Channelview plant in Texas alarmed some Houston drivers early on Wednesday, but the company said the smoke posed no danger to the plant or the community.

LyondellBasell said the smoke was due to flaring because of unscheduled maintenance at the site.

The company produces a wide range of chemicals in Channelview, including benzene, toluene, ethylene, propylene and butadiene, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.
