HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US refined glycerine imports in November were 7,880 tonnes, or 29% lower than the 11,163 tonnes imported in same month a year before, according to the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Tuesday.

Exports in the month were 1% more than the 7,771 tonnes imported in October.

The US imported 100,791 tonnes of refined glycerine between January and November, a 22% increase compared with 82,346 tonnes the same period the year before, the ITC said.

More than half of the imported glycerine was from Malaysia, where lower costs forced US glycerine refiners to reduce their own pricing.

Global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing assessed glycerine spot prices on 7 January at $728-992/tonne (€546-744/tonne) for both vegetable and tallow derived material. That compared with $838-1,102/tonne on 12 November.

US glycerine manufacturers include Cargill, Procter & Gamble, Dial, Archer Daniels Midland and Uniqema.
