LONDON (ICIS news)--AkzoNobel has completed the acquisition of German chlorine producer LII Europe for an undisclosed sum, the Dutch specialty chemicals group said on Monday.

“LII Europe's activities will strengthen the position of our industrial chemicals business, especially in the European caustic market, as well as extending our regional scope,” said Akzo Nobel board member Rob Frohn.

Based at the Hoechst Industrial Park near Frankfurt, Germany, LII Europe produces chlorine, chlorinated hydrocarbons, calcium chloride and solid caustic, AkzoNobel said.

The company said it plans to become the leading chlorine and caustic merchant in Europe, focusing on the local production and supply of chlorine, and regional supply of caustic lye and hydrochloric acid.
