HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Brazilian ethanol exports in January totalled 191m litres (50.5m gal), a 13% drop from 220m litres one year earlier, Brazil’s foreign trade ministry said on Monday.
Ethanol shipments in January were down by 45% from 348m litres in December 2008, the government said.
Ethanol exports reached an average of $475/cbm (€371/cbm) in January. That compares with $469/cbm in December and $404/cbm in January 2008, the trade ministry said.
Brazil is the world’s top exporter of ethanol and the second-largest producer of the biofuel, after the US.
Brazil exported 5.1bn litres of ethanol in 2008, a 50% increase from 3.4bn litres in the previous year, according to the foreign trade ministry.
