Correction: In the ICIS news story headlined "Europe Feb phenol up €106/tonne on benzene settlement" dated 06 February 2009, please read in the final paragraph ...February phenol contract... instead of ...January phenol contract.... A corrected story follows.

LONDON (ICIS news)--The European February phenol contract has increased by €106/tonne ($136/tonne) from January on the benzene contract settlement, producers and consumers confirmed on Friday.

“We have moved our phenol price up with benzene, but demand remains weak,” confirmed a phenol producer.

A Phenol consumer also confirmed that the February phenol contract had increased by €106/tonne due to the benzene settlement.

“Demand overall is not brilliant but we have increased phenol with benzene,” said another producer.

Europe February benzene settled at €286/tonne FOB (free on board) NWE, up €106/tonne from January.

The February phenol contract settled at €760-800/tonne FD (free delivered) NWE (northwest Europe).
