HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US polycarbonate (PC) exports in 2008 were 406,272 tonnes, or 2% higher than the 397,258 tonnes shipped a year before, according to the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Wednesday.

Although PC consumption in North America was down for the year, exports to Asia increased as production rates dropped there. While US PC exports to Canada dropped 25%, to 38,893 tonnes in 2008 from 51,950 tonnes in 2007, those to Hong Kong were up 66%, to 37,837 tonnes in 2008 from the 22,829 tonnes the year before.

Exports in December were 11,026 tonnes, 60% less than the 27,821 tonnes shipped in November and 65% lower than the 31,360 shipped in December 2007, the ITC said.

Global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing assessed PC prices at $2,425-2,646 /tonne (€1,892-2,064/tonne) on Wednesday, down from $2,646-2,866/tonne on 24 December.
