HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US refined glycerine imports in 2008 were 106,701 tonnes, or 17% higher than the 90,888 tonnes shipped the year before, according to the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Wednesday.
Imports in December were 5,910 tonnes, 25% less than the 7,880 tonnes imported in the previous month and 31% less than the 8,543 tonnes shipped in December 2007.
Malaysia and Germany increased their shipments to the US for part of the year, driven by higher prices for US material. Germany alone increased its shipments to the US by 28% for the year, to 22,231 tonnes in 2008 from 17,376 tonnes in 2007 .
Global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing assessed refined tallow and vegetable glycerine prices at $728-948/tonne (€568-739/tonne) on 11 February, down from $838-1,102/tonne on 10 December.
