Japan's January PVC production down 21% - industry association

TOKYO (ICIS news)--Japan produced 134,602 tonnes of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in January, a 20.9% decrease from the same period a year before, an industry association said on Wednesday.

Domestically, shipments of PVC resin for the production of rigid PVC fell by 20.6% compared with the previous year to 44,583 tonnes, the Vinyl Environmental Council (VEC) said.

Exports of PVC were down 1.8% to 50,388 tonnes, the VEC added.

The country’s production of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), meanwhile, increased by 5.7% compared with the previous year to 276,620 tonnes in January, according to the VEC.

However, domestic shipments of VCM for PVC production decreased by 21.9% to 135,735 tonnes, the VEC said.

Exports of VCM more than doubled year or year to 128,403 tonnes, the industry association added.
